LC Softball Sweeps Twinbill against Randolph
LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College softball team swept an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) doubleheader against visiting Randolph College Wednesday 3-1 and 9-4.
Freshman right-hander Conner English threw a complete game two hitter in the opener to lift the Hornets to the win. She struck out nine batters and walked just one en route to her fifth win of the season.
After LC manufactured a run in the first, Kayla St. John led off the third with a walk. She later scored on an RBI triple from Amber Ingram to right field. Olivia Donahue lifted a sacrifice fly to plate Ingram and make the score 3-0 after three.
Randolph threatened with two outs and none on in the top of the seventh. Lauren Morris homered to left center to cut the lead to two, but English induced a pop up with a runner on to finish what she started.
Donahue drove in two LC runs and St. John also doubled.
Randolph put two runs on the scoreboard in the top of the second inning of game two, but LC plated three in the bottom of the frame. Jessi Hall hit a sacrifice fly and St. John followed with a two-run double to put LC up 3-2.
Lynchburg broke the game open with four runs in the third inning, scoring in a variety of ways; a ground out, a Nicole Riley single, an error and a double by Hall. The Hornets followed with two more in the fourth with the big blow being an RBI double from Skylar Seals.
Hope Johnson scattered five hits and two walks to pick up the complete-game victory, allowing just two earned runs. Ingram and Seals each had two hits for LC. Haley Brickles homered for the WildCats (6-6/0-2 ODAC).
The Hornets (12-5/4-0 ODAC) host 11th-ranked Virginia Wesleyan College Saturday at 1 p.m. in another ODAC twinbill.
