Hornet Softball Sweeps Ferrum, 11-0 and 4-1
LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College softball team swept a non-conference doubleheader Sunday afternoon against visiting Ferrum College, winning by scores of 11-0 (five innings) and 4-1.
Kayla St. John opened the scoring in the first inning of the opener with a solo home run, and Logan Walker singled in the third to score Amber Ingram to put LC ahead 2-0. The Hornets exploded for nine runs in the bottom of the fourth frame, ripping eight hits and taking advantage of two Panther errors. Ingram and Nicole Riley each belted run-scoring doubles in the inning and Skylar Seals delivered a two-run single.
Elizabeth Fioretti worked four innings, allowing just one hit and one walk with four strikeouts for the win. Riley finished the game with three hits and two doubles and Ingram was 2-2 with a walk.
Ferrum plated an unearned run in game two in the second inning, but LC tied it at one in the third with an RBI single from Danielle Powell. The Hornets opened a 3-1 lead with two runs in the fifth, with run-scoring hits from St. John and Ingram. Jessi Hall singled in the sixth to push across an insurance run.
Conner English picked up the win in relief, working 3 2/3 innings with five strikeouts.
Powell had three of LC's 10 hits in the second game. Aiyana Lew had two base hits for Ferrum (15-7).
LC (15-6) is home again mid-week with a pair of non-conference doubleheaders, facing the University of Mary Washington Wednesday and DePauw University Thursday. Both twin-bills are set to begin at 3 p.m.
