Logan Walker Homers Twice to Give LC Softball Split against Mary Washington
LYNCHBURG, VA – Sophomore Logan Walker ripped two home runs Wednesday to give the Lynchburg College softball team a split in a non-conference doubleheader against the University of Mary Washington. The Eagles took the first game 4-3 in 10 innings but LC, powered by Logan, took game two 4-2.
UMW got on the scoreboard in the second inning of the opener with a solo home run from Hannah Haupt. LC answered with a run in the bottom of the third, when Danielle Powell scored Jessi Hall with a single. The Eagles loaded the bases with one out in the sixth, but reliever Elizabeth Fioretti induced a groundout and a pop out to squash the threat.
UMW scored two runs in the eighth, but LC rallied for two in the bottom of the frame. Hall scored on a Powell single again and Olivia Donohue hit a sacrifice fly to re-tie the game at three all. Mary Washington scored on a groundout in the 10th, and Hannah Otterman closed out LC for the win. She threw all 10 innings, scattering seven hits and allowing just two earned runs.
Powell had three hits for LC and two RBI. Conner English got the start for LC in the circle and allowed just one run, five hits and no walks while striking out 11 in 5.1 innings. Britney Scites went 4-5 for the Eagles.
Mary Washington opened the nightcap with a run in the first, but a two-run home run by Logan Walker in the second put LC ahead 2-1. Mary Washington tied the game in the fifth, but again Walker belted another two-run homer to give LC a 4-2 advantage.
Kirsten Copley finished what she started for LC, allowing no earned runs with five hits, no walks and four strikeouts for the win. Walker was 3-3 with four RBI for LC and Skylar Seals doubled. Zoie Patrick went 2-3 for UMW (12-8).
