Trio of Hornets No Hit Shenandoah in Second Game of Doubleheader Sweep

LYNCHBURG, VA – Seniors Amber Ingram and Elizabeth Fioretti and sophomore Katie Maddox combined to no-hit the Shenandoah University softball team in the second game of Monday's doubleheader.

Lynchburg won both contests, 11-3 and 15-0 to start undefeated in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play.

Shenandoah jumped on the board quickly in the first game as Lindsay Corbin connected on a two-run homer in the first, but the Hornet pitchers would allow just one run to cross the plate the rest of the way.

LC tied up the contest in the bottom of the third when Kayla St. John drove in Nicole Riley with a double to left-center. Ingram chased St. John home with a single up the middle.

The game was tied at three heading into the bottom of the fifth when Lynchburg plated eight runs on four hits to take the walk-off victory. The offense was helped by six Shenandoah walks, three of which allowed runs in from third base. The biggest blast of the frame came on Ingram's grand slam that extended a one run lead to 8-3.

Lynchburg did not leave any question marks in game two, jumping out to a 10-0 lead after the first frame. The first 11 Hornets reached base before Shenandoah managed to induce a pop up for the first out, already staring at an eight spot in the run column.

Once again control came into play as four Hornets drew walks in the frame while two others were hit by pitches.

St. John picked up two hits and two RBI in the first inning while Lauren Smith added another pair of RBI on a single to center field. Six of the nine Hornet hitters registered hits in the first-inning onslaught.

Lynchburg was dominating in the circle as Ingram worked two innings of hitless softball, striking out four. Fioretti pitched the next two innings, adding a strikeout of her own before Maddox contributed a strikeout in a perfect fifth inning.

St. John went 6-for-7 on the day with three runs scored and three RBI while Jessi Hall and Riley added four runs each.

Corbin had two hits for Shenandoah (0-4/0-2 ODAC) in the first game before taking the loss in the circle in game two.

Lynchburg (6-2/2-0) hosts No. 5 Christopher Newport University (3-2) for a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 2 p.m.
