Hornet Softball Sweeps Bridgewater 12-0 and 10-0
BRIDGEWATER, VA – The Lynchburg College softball team breezed to two victories Saturday afternoon in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play at Bridgewater College, winning 12-0 in five innings and 10-0 in six frames.
The Hornets had three big scoring innings in the opener to cruise to victory, plating five in the second, four in the fourth and three in the third.
Lauren Smith earned her third-straight start and responded with a 3-3 outing, a double, and two RBI. Danielle Powell went 2-4 with two runs and three RBI, and Leslie Bourgeois scored three times and rapped two hits, including a triple. Seniors Jessi Hall and Amber Ingram each had two base-hits, scored twice and stole a base.
Hope Johnson allowed just two hits in three innings in the circle to earn the win. Elizabeth Fioretti threw two hitless innings of relief.
Lynchburg again used big scoring innings in the nightcap, with four runs each in the second and sixth innings and two in the fifth.
Kirsten Copley was nearly perfect in her four innings of work, allowing just one hit and one walk with two strikeouts to earn the win. Katie Maddox didn't allow a run in two innings out of the bullpen.
Hall was 3-4 with two runs scored and Ingram belted a solo home run. Smith, Logan Walker and Kayla St. John each had two hits while Amy Bresson drove in three runs.
The Eagles fall to 9-18 overall and 2-12 in conference play.
Lynchburg (24-11/12-4) hosts Eastern Mennonite University Sunday in another ODAC twinbill starting at 1:30 p.m.
