LC Softball Rolls to 6-1 win over Roanoke in ODAC Tourney
SALEM, VA – The second-seeded Lynchburg College softball team defeated Roanoke College 6-1 Friday evening to finish the first day of play 2-0 at the 2015 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Championships. LC will face off with #4 Randolph-Macon College Saturday at 9 a.m. in the finals of the winner's bracket. The victor of that game will only have to win one more contest over the weekend to claim the conference crown.
Freshman Conner English was dominant in the circle for LC, throwing a complete-game three hitter with one walk and seven strikeouts to earn her 10th win of the season.
Lynchburg scored all the runs English would need with a three-run third inning. Senior Amber Ingram drove home two runs with a single and Leslie Bourgeois singled to later score Ingram.
LC tacked on three more in the next inning, with Kayla St. John drilling a two-run double to left center field, and scored on another base hit from Ingram.
The Maroons (21-13) scored their run in the fifth on a solo home run by Rhea Schleicher.
Nicole Riley had two hits and scored twice for LC, while Ingram had two hits and three RBI. Lead-off hitter Jessi Hall scored twice.
Saturday's schedule has been altered due to a possible impending storm bringing rain to the Roanoke/Salem area in the late morning/early afternoon hours. Three games are scheduled for 9 a.m., including Lynchburg's (30-11) contest with R-MC. The Yellow Jackets upset top-seeded Virginia Wesleyan 2-0 earlier in this evening.
The win seals the program's third-straight 30-win season.
