SALEM, VA – The fourth-seeded Randolph-Macon College softball team defeated Lynchburg College 7-1 Sunday afternoon in the finals of the 2015 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Championship Tournament to take home the conference crown. The Hornets had many scoring opportunities on the day, but left 11 runners stranded.
Randolph-Macon jumped out early for three runs in the first. A sacrifice fly scored one and Harley Jones hit a two-run home run down the left-field line to give R-MC a three-run lead in the top of the first.
Madison Gilman and Katie Woody hit solo home runs in the third and fourth innings, respectively, to push the lead to 5-0. LC left seven runners stranded in the first three innings.
Macon extended the lead to 7-0 with two more tallies in the fifth, with RBI singles from Gilman and Woody doing the damage.
The Hornets threatened again in the bottom of the sixth, loading the bases with no outs after singles by Amber Sulter, Skylar Seals and Nicole Riley. After two outs were recorded, junior Danielle Powell lashed a single into left field to score Sulter, but Lynchburg left three more runners stranded.
Freshman left-hander Nelda Bagley threw her fourth-straight complete game victory for R-MC, earning the tournament's Most Outstanding Player for her efforts.
Jessi Hall and Powell each had two hits on the day for LC. Senior Hope Johnson threw two perfect innings of relief.

Lynchburg (31-13) awaits a possible NCAA Division III Tournament at-large berth, which will be announced May 4.
