Box Score Lynchburg, Va. -- In the latest edition of the Hill City Rivalry, Lynchburg and Randolph Men's Soccer teams scrapped to a draw on Tuesday night, 0-0.
Both teams were in a tie for third in goals scored and boasted two of the best goalkeepers in the conference in relation to save percentage.
The Hornets and WildCats were able to get off a handful of shots in the first half but the first real chances did not come until 15 minutes in when junior Fredy Flores fired a shot on frame only to be saved by the WildCat keeper and the same result for sophomore Dan Friedberg after he whipped a header on goal.
Lynchburg would get two more shots on goal from senior Thomas Salamone and junior Collin Kashmer in the latter part of the half but to no avail as the teams would go into halftime scoreless.
The second half began to get a bit more heated and more fouls were being called but it took until the 65th minute for the refree to reach into his pocket to brandish a card.
Once again the shots and opportunities were a plenty for each side in the second 45 minutes but the defense and goalkeepers on both ends held strong and kept out some magnificent attempts on goal, sending the game to extra time.
Sophomore Dylan McLaurin was called into action multiple times and responded with timely saves and clearances. McLaurin ended the night with five saves but moves to 10-1-3 on the year.
The Hornets were led offensivley by Salamone and Flores while senior Ben Grossfuss contributed with three shots of his own and sophomores Austin Kues and Zach Thomas along with Kashmer registered two each.
The Hornets will look to move back on top of the ODAC when they head to Shenandoah for a 5 p.m. kickoff on Friday, October 21st. Click here to follow along.
