LC Baseball Outslugs Stevenson 12-4
LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College baseball team racked up 18 hits on the afternoon as the Hornets defeated Stevenson University 12-4 in non-conference play from Fox Field.
Lynchburg scored two in the bottom of the first with an RBI single from Joe Tomasulo and a sacrifice fly from Matt Ward. The Mustangs cut the lead to 2-1 in the fourth, but LC answered with three in the bottom of the frame. A double from Jonathan Munn and a triple by Will Harris were the big hits of the innings. SU scored three in the fifth to make it a 5-4 game.
Lynchburg extended the lead to 8-4 with three runs in the sixth, Harris provided a two-run single in the frame. The Hornets scored an insurance run in the seventh and three in the eighth.
Three Hornets had three hits on the afternoon; Ryan Katona, Munn and Tyler Johnson. Harris went 2-5 with three RBI and Thomas Powell and Tomasulo also had two hits. Munn scored three times and Brad Hylton, Johnson and Katona each scored twice.
Kyle Jacksic threw 3 1/3 of scoreless relief with four strikeouts for the win, and Zack Engelmann worked 1 2/3 scoreless innings.
Kevin Kopas went 2-4 for the Mustangs. Stevenson falls to 6-7 on the season.
The Hornets (6-11) travel to Roanoke College Wednesday for an Old Dominion Athletic Conference game at 5 p.m.
