LC Softball Swept by 10th-Ranked Va. Wesleyan
VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – The Lynchburg College softball team dropped both ends of an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) doubleheader Saturday at 10th-ranked Virginia Wesleyan College 4-1 and 3-0.
The Marlins jumped ahead early in game one with two runs in the first on a two-run double from Blake Henderson. Jessica Lindsay hit a two-run home run in the fourth to give VWC a 4-0 lead. LC got on the scoreboard with a run in the top of the seventh as Kayla St. John singled to bring home Leslie Bourgeois.
The Hornets out-hit their hosts in the opener 9-7 but left seven runners on base. St. John, Nicole Riley and Logan Walker each had a pair of basehits. Mary Shipp earned the complete-game win for the Marlins, allowing no walks and one earned run while striking out six.
The Marlins scored a run in the second and two in the third of the nightcap, which was all Kandis Kresinske would need. She threw a complete game, allowing just three hits and three walks. Skylar Dickens went 2-2 for LC, while Kirsten Copley tossed 3 1/3 innings of relief and allowed no earned runs.
LC (7-9/2-2 ODAC) hosts Salem College (NC) in a non-conference doubleheader Thursday, with first pitch scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
