Lynchburg Women's Lacrosse Breezes by Bridgewater 8-4
Lynchburg, VA— The Lynchburg College women's lacrosse team defeated Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) opponent Bridgewater College 8-4 on Saturday afternoon. The Hornets are now 6-3 overall and 2-1 in ODAC play.
In the first half the score was tied 2-2 with 13 minutes remaining, but Lynchburg ended the half with two goals to lead the Eagles 4-2 going into the second half. Lynchburg scored the first goal in the second half, but Bridgewater scored the next two goals to come within one with 12 minutes left in the game. Lynchburg ended the game scoring three goals to put LC up by four.
Lynchburg was led by Sarah Suter and Laura Meisner who each had three goals. Sidney Gleason and Caroline Carozza each found the back of the net once for the Hornets, and Kat Francis and Carozza had two assists apiece. Francis had a game-high four groundballs, while Helen Boniface and Treva Tyson each had two caused turnovers. Tyson made six saves for the Hornets.
The Eagles (5-6/0-3 ODAC) had a balanced attacking effort, with Kristen Stark, Jenna Devilbiss, Claire Palermo-Re, and Caroline Fletcher each scoring one goal. Annie Sullivan had one assist for BC, while Erica Blubaugh and Anna O'Hara each scooped up three groundballs. Rachel Gruber had 13 saves in goal for Bridgewater.
The Hornets will return back to action on Wednesday when they travel to ODAC opponent Virginia Wesleyan College for a 5 p.m. game.
