Lynchburg Women's Lacrosse outlasts Roanoke 11-10
Salem, VA— The Lynchburg College women's lacrosse team defeated Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) opponent Roanoke College Wednesday evening 11-10 in a crucial ODAC match-up. This win puts the Hornets in third place in ODAC play with a 9-4 overall record and 5-2 in the ODAC.
Roanoke led 6-5 at halftime, but LC opened a 10-7 advantage with under nine minutes to play. Nicole Zelnik posted three-straight goals for RC to tie the game at 10 all, but Laura Meisner netted the Hornet game-winner with 1:50 left on the game clock.
Junior
Maddie Koontz led the Hornet attack with four goals, while Meisner added three.
Haley Lochren found the back of the net twice to go along with two assists.
Alexa Carey and
Caroline Carozza also got in on the scoring action with a goal apiece.
Rachel Henderson scooped up four groundballs and caused four turnovers for the Hornet defense.
Sarah Suter contributed three groundballs and three caused turnovers, while Marissa Dadua,
Helen Boniface, and
Treva Tyson each picked up two groundballs. Tyson also had six saves on the night.
The Maroons (7-8/5-3 ODAC) were led by Zelnik's four goals, while Claire Feeney added three and one assist. Courtney McCartin, Allison Beames, and Mckenna Polak each had one. McCartin, Beames, and Catherine Pace each added an assist. Jordan Visser scooped up a game-high six groundballs, and Katie Clements had five. Emma Boris had four groundballs and four caused turnovers for RC.
LC will return to action on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m., traveling to Raleigh, NC to face the Avenging Angels of Meredith College.
