Women's Lacrosse Falls Short to Meredith College 16-13
RALEIGH, NC— The Lynchburg College women's lacrosse team lost a close 16-13 game to non-conference opponent Meredith College on Saturday afternoon. The Avenging Angels improve to 17-1 on the season.
Lynchburg was first to get on the board with a goal from
Sarah Suter, however less than a minute later Meredith found the back of the net to even the score. The Hornets and Avenging Angels continued to trade goals back and forth until halftime, with Meredith up one goal going into the second half.
Kat Francis scored the first goal in the second half to make it eight all. Again the two teams continue to trade goals, until the last 11 minutes of the game when Meredith went on a three-goal run to put the game out of the Hornets' reach.
Haley Lochren and Francis each had three goals for Lynchburg, while
Maddie Koontz and
Laura Meisner had two.
Alexa Carey, Suter, and
Sidney Gleason each found the back of the net once.
Caroline Carozza led the Hornets with three assists and Carey and Meisner each dished out one.
Rachel Henderson scooped up five groundballs to go with two caused turnovers. Goalie
Treva Tyson had 16 saves and six groundballs.
Julie Capretti led the Avenging Angels with six goals, while Jennifer Halvorson and Carlee Joseph each had three. Katie Burnet and Holly Hite each found the back of the net twice.
The Hornets (9-5) host Guilford College Wednesday at 4 p.m. in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference match-up.
