LC Softball Rallies for 7-6 win over Guilford
LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College softball team trailed Guilford College 5-3 in the seventh inning Saturday, but rallied for a 7-6 win in eight innings over the Quakers in an elimination game in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC).
GC led 5-3 after scoring three runs in the top of the seventh. Skylar Dickens walked, Kayla St. John singled and Nicole Riley laid down a sacrifice bunt to move the runners to second and third with one out. Danielle Powell brought home Dickens with a sacrifice fly, and Mackenzie Chitwood doubled to bring home St. John and force extra innings.
The Quakers hit a sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth to take a 6-5 advantage, but again LC would come back. With one out, Amy Bresson singled to load the bases and Skylar Dickens hit a sacrifice fly to tie the game. St. John hit a two-out single to send the winning run home.
Chitwood finished with three hits for LC, while St. john, Riley and Leslie Bourgeois each had two hits. Four Quakers (25-18) had two basehits.
Lynchburg, seeded #4 in the eight-team tourney, will face #2 Randolph-Macon College at 2 p.m. in another elimination game.
