Hornet Softball ODAC Tourney Run Ends 3-1 to EMU
SALEM, VA – Following two extra-inning victories Saturday, the fourth-seeded Lynchburg College softball team was finally eliminated from the 2016 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Tournament 3-1 by Eastern Mennonite University.
The Hornets were down to their final out Saturday morning, but rallied for a 7-6 win over Guilford College in eight innings to eliminate the Quakers. Randolph-Macon College battled LC for 10 innings Saturday afternoon, but Lynchburg sent the Yellow Jackets home with a 7-5 victory.
Second-seeded Eastern Mennonite, playing in its second game of the day, used a strong pitching performance from Sydney Reath. She tossed all seven frames and scattered seven hits and three walks, but only allowed one earned run as LC left eight runners on base.
The Royals took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first on back-to-back doubles and made the lead 3-0 in the fourth following another two-bagger. The Hornets plated a run in the fifth as an RBI single from Nicole Riley scored Kayla St. John. LC missed an opportunity to do even further damage in the inning, leaving the bases loaded and with one runner thrown out on the base-paths. Reath allowed just one base-runner in the sixth and seventh frames.
St. John and Skylar Dickens each had two hits for Lynchburg (27-18). Conner English threw 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief.
Payton Hill had two doubles for Eastern Mennonite (31-13).
