Hornet Softball Pounds 26 runs and 31 hits in sweep of Ferrum
FERRUM, VA – The Lynchburg College softball team scored 26 runs and pounded out 31 hits Wednesday in a doubleheader sweep of Ferrum College in non-conference action. The Hornets have an eight-game winning streak stretching over the last week.
LC won the opener 13-3 in five innings. Senior thirdbaseman Danielle Powell went 3-3 with a double, two runs scored and three RBI, while Mackenzie Chitwood had two hits, three RBI and a home run. Logan Walker homered and was 2-3 with three RBI, while Kayla St. John was 2-3 with a walk and three runs scored. Nicole Riley and Skylar Dickens each had two hits and combined for three stolen bases.
Cheyenne Strickland went 3-3 and Lindsey Slover was 2-3 for Ferrum.
The Hornet offense kept rolling in the game two in a 13-6 win. The Panthers led 4-0 after one inning, but LC quickly turned the deficit into a lead.
Leslie Bourgeois was 3-4 for Lynchburg with a home run, while Riley had three hits, two runs and two RBI. Amy Bresson drilled a pair of home runs and had three RBI, while Walker had a grand slam and drove in five runs.
Miyana Ross, Strickland and Slover each had two hits for Ferrum (15-13).
Conner English earned both victories out of the bullpen Wednesday. The sophomore right-hander worked all 12 innings, allowing just 11 hits while striking out 13.
Lynchburg (15-11) returns to Old Dominion Athletic Conference action Saturday, hosting Emory & Henry College in a twinbill starting at 1:30 p.m.
