Harrisonburg, Va. -- A late run helped Lebanon Valley squeak past Lynchburg Field Hockey on Wednesday night in the neutral site game, which was played on the campus of Eastern Mennonite University.

The Hornets offense showed up in full force as they unleashed a flurry of 20 shots, half of which were on target while also earning 15 penalty corners.

Lebanon Valley opened the scoring as Maddie Fox fired off a hard shot at the top of the circle that found its way into the left side of the cage.

The Hornets responded with a goal of their own with just under two minutes left in the first half. There was a scramble at the left post and junior Karissa LeMaire got the final touch, drawing the score back to even.

The third-year midfielder picked up where she left off in the first half as she rattled the cage for a second time just four minutes into the second half. After being awarded a corner, LeMaire inserted to sophomore Kayla Copeman who found freshman Keely Lunsmann and the first-year returned it to LeMaire who slotted it home, giving Lynchburg a 2-1 lead.

Even though the Hornets were able to get off eight more shots and earn five more corners, no shot was able to beat the opposing keeper the rest of the night. Lebanon Valley goalie Sarah Dimaggio recorded five saves in the second half alone and ended the game with eight toal.

A goal in the 62nd minute by Megan Arnst drew the Flying Dutchmen even with the Hornets and with the goalie pulled, Isabella Vulopas put the game away for Lebanon Valley with a goal in the 66th minute.

Sophomore Nikki Simpao led the Hornets with five shots while junior Hannah Krause added another four. LeMaire now has two goals and an assist on the year and leads Lynchburg with five points.

The Hornets return to action this Saturday, Sept. 17 for Parents Weekend when they faceoff against Mary Washington in Fredricksburg, Va. The Hornets do not return to Shellenberger Field until Oct. 15th when they host Washington & Lee for Homecoming Weekend.
