Around the Horn
The Hornets fell to the Maroons in a Saturday afternoon doubleheader at Moyer Complex in Roanoke. With the losses, Lynchburg moves to 2-2 in the ODAC and 17-7 overall.
Game 1 Breakdown
- The Hornets jumped out early as freshman Sarah Commons scored in the top of the 2nd off of a sacrifice fly by senior Jessica Murphy
- Roanoke tied up the score at one in the bottom of the 3rd
- In the top of the 4th junior Skylar Dickens singled into left field, driving in senior Kayla St. John to put the Hornets up 2-1
- The Maroons won on a walk-off single into center field that scored two in the bottom of th 7th
Game 2 Breakdown
- Roanoke got on the board first, scoring a run in the bottom of the 1st and 2nd innings
- Sophomore Mackenzie Chitwood drove in Murphy in the top of the 3rd, cutting the lead to one
- With a three-run home run in the top of the 5th, sophomore Taylor Mabry bumped up her RBI total to 29, second-best in the ODAC
- The Maroons answered back with a run of their own in the bottom of the 5th, drawing to within one at 4-3
- Roanoke almost hit through the lineup in the bottom of the 6th, scoring five runs to go ahead 8-4, which was how the game eventually ended
On Deck
The women will be on the road again for their next contest, traveling North on Route 29 to Sweet Briar College. The Hornets and Vixens will square-off in a doubleheader on Tuesday, Mar. 28th with the first game set to start at 3:00 p.m.
