Around the Horn:
Hornets continued their winning streak, defeating Bridgewater in a Saturday afternoon double header, 8-0 and 9-8.
Game 1 Breakdown:
- Four different Hornets were able to drive in runs
- Connor English earned the victory, pitching four hitless innings
- Sophomore Taylor Mabry started the game off with a double to right center bringing home junior Skylar Dickens for the first run of the game
- In the third inning, freshman Kayla Hugate scored off a passed ball
- Also in the third, freshmen Sarah Commons hit a triple to left field bringing in two RBIs
- Mabry singled up the middle bringing in sophomore Mackenzie Chitwood
- Senior Lauren Smith brought in the last run for the third inning leaving the Hornets up 6-0.
- Freshman Kayla Hugate hit a single to right field, collecting two more RBIs to secure the 8-0 victory.
Game 2 Breakdown;
- Lynchburg scored three runs in the first inning
-The runs came from a Chitwood single that scored Dickens
- Mabry singles to score Chitwood and Hugate making it 3-0
- Bridgewater would answer back with five runs
- Hugate would triple in the second inning to make it a tie game, driving home two runs
- Chitwood would go on to score Hugate to make it 6-5
- Mabry would finisj off the inning by bringing home Chitwood, giving Lynchburg a 7-5 lead
- In the fourth inning the Hornets would add two more runs followed by Bridgewater scoriing two as well to bring the Eagles within one run of the Hornets
- Bridgewater would score one run in the fifth inning to come within a run of Lynchburg but it wasn't enough as the Hornets won 9-8
On Deck:
Lynchburg returns to Moon Field Sunday for a double header against Eastern Mennonite for the Colon Cancer Awareness doubleheader that is scheduled to start at 1:30 pm.
