Around the Horn
The Lynchburg Hornets fell to the Virginia Wesleyan Marlins in a doubleheader Saturay afternoon. This game was dedicated to the four senior Hornets, Logan Walker, Lauren Smith, Jessica Murphy and Kayla St. John as well as a day of appreciation for the faculty and staff of Lynchburg College.
Game 1 Breakdown
- The pitching for both the Marlins and Hornets was stout as both defenses kept the game scoreless for five innings
- Virginia Wesleyan opened the scoring with one run in the sixth inning
- The Marlins secured the victory by adding four more runs in the seventh, extending their lead to 5-0
- Senior Logan Walker, junior Skylar Dickens and freshman Kayla Hugate recorded hits in the game
Game 2 Breakdown
- Lynchburg jumped out to an early lead in the first inning with a single up the middle by sophomore Mackenzie Chitwood, which drove in Hugate
- Wesleyan would erase the Hornets lead in the second with two runs of their own
- After no scoring action by either team, the Marlins chalked up seven runs in the fifth inning
- The Hornets fought back with a double by Hugate, which brought junior Leslie Bourgeois home, bringing the score to 9-2
- The final two innings saw the defenses lock down by both teams as no runs were scored

The Lynchburg Softball team will travel down to play in a conference doubleheader against Emory & Henry for their final regular season game. The Hornets and Wasps will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Wasps Field.
