HOW IT HAPPENED
- Washington and Lee stormed out to a 3-0 halftime lead thanks to a trio of Haley Tucker goals.
- The Hornets came out with new intensity after intermission, led by Copeman. The junior scored her third goal of the season in the 44th minute, deflecting Simpao's long pass into the cage. Six minutes later, the two teamed up for a nearly identical goal.
- Simpao's seventh goal of the season knotted the score in the 59th minute. She tracked down the rebound from Isabella Eldridge's (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) shot and won a one-on-one matchup with the W&L goalie.
- The Hornets couldn't capitalize on a penalty corner at the end of regulation, as Generals goalie Ariyel Yavalar saved a Karissa LeMaire (Dewey Beach, Del.) shot off the corner.
- Lynchburg goalie Laurel Nicks (Yorktown, Va.) saved the first three shots the Generals took at her in the sudden-death overtime, but Sands was able to corral a rebound and score it to win the game.
