Box Score Union, N.J. -- Despite senior forward Alex Allen's (China Grove, N.C.) first-career double-double, University of Lynchburg's women's basketball team couldn't get past Moravian Friday night at the Kean University Classic, falling 69-63.
Allen matched her career-high with 24 points and grabbed a career-best 15 rebounds to continue her hot start to the season.
Sophomore guard Maggie Quarles (Roanoke, Va.) added a career-high 15 points as well, going 3-for-5 from 3-point territory, while senior forward Molly Shephard (Charlottesville, Va.) scored 10 points for the Hornets.
Maddie Capuano scored a game-high 30 points for the Greyhounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The teams traded baskets most of the first period as Lynchburg took a 15-14 lead into the first intermission.

Moravian took its largest lead of the first half, 25-21, on Capuano's bucket with 2:56 remaining in the second, and that score stuck until halftime.

Lynchburg retook the lead late in the third on a 7-0 run, highlighted by Quarles' 3-pointer, but the Greyhounds closed the deficit to 48-47 with 10 minutes remaining.

The Hornets began the fourth on a 6-0 run and led 54-47 with 7:31 to play, but Moravian responded with a 13-2 run of its own to take the lead down the stretch. The Greyhounds were 6-for-8 from the free throw stripe in the final 2 minutes.
LOOKING AHEAD
Lynchburg will play again Saturday at Kean, taking on the loser of tonight's late game between the host Cougars and Eastern.
