Box Score Lynchburg, Va. -- The Lynchburg College women's lacrosse team opened up its 2018 season with an 18-9 loss to No. 17 Mary Washington Saturday afternoon.
Junior attack Alicia Sandoval (Montclair, Va.) and senior midfielder Dorrie MacGregor (Centreville, Md.) accounted for more than half of the Hornets scoring, each collecting three goals. Midfielder Sarah Suter (Herndon, Va.) picked up two ground balls and one goal. Carly Sandler (Kennebunk, Maine) and Hannah Creasey (Virginia Beach, Va.) also scored one goal each for the Hornets.
Mary Washington midfielder Paige Haskins led the game with five goals.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Lynchburg jumped on the board early with an unassisted goal by Sandoval in the second minute of play, but Mary Washington came back hard scoring the next four goals. Sandoval tried to slow down the Eagles with another shot to the back of the net, but the Eagles went on to score the next four goals ending the first half 8-2.

The Hornets had a rally going in the second half scoring three goals back to back, but it wasn't enough and Lynchburg fell to the Eagles 18-9.
LOOKING AHEAD
The Hornets will travel to Raleigh, N.C. to face the Avenging Angels of Meredith on March 1 at 5 p.m.
