Salem, Va. -- Behind a six-goal outburst from junior attackman Alicia Sandoval (Montclair, Va.), the Lynchburg College women's lacrosse team earned its third-straight win, a 15-12 road victory over Old Dominion Athletic Conference rival Roanoke Friday afternoon.

The Hornets backed Sandoval's career-high with a hat trick and an assist off the stick of sophomore midfielder Kelsi Trevisan (West Chester, Va.) and a pair of goals from junior attackman Kelsey Nock (Salisbury, Md.).

Senior midfielder Dorrie MacGregor (Centreville, Md.) chipped in 10 draw controls and three ground balls, while senior defender Rachel Henderson (Perry Hall, Md.) caused four turnovers and scooped up five ground balls.

Mckenna Polak and Ellie Armstrong each scored thrice for the Maroons.

Lynchburg has now won three of the last four meetings with its rival from the west.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- Sandoval gave Lynchburg an early 1-0 lead with a goal in the third minute of play, but the Hornets couldn't gain control of the game. After a 3-0 run midway through the first half gave LC a 6-3 lead, the Maroons responded with a 3-0 run of their own.

- Maintaining control with strong draw play -- thanks in large part to MacGregor -- Lynchburg hit the last blow of the half, scoring twice in the final minute on shots by senior attackman Sidney Gleason (Dumfries, Va.) and junior midfielder Hannah Creasey (Virginia Beach, Va.) for a 10-9 lead midway through. Sandoval finished the half with a hat trick.

- Sandoval made her presence known again after halftime, adding to the Hornet lead with her fifth goal of the game. After a Roanoke score cut the lead to one, Trevisan and Nock each added scores for a 13-10 Lynchburg advantage.

- Senior goalie Chelsea Shultis (Hurley, N.Y.) kept LC in front with five second-half saves, and Sandoval kept Roanoke at bay with a pair of goals in the final 10 minutes to reach her career-high and seal the victory.

LOOKING AHEAD

Lynchburg will face another challenge in its next time out, Tuesday, April 3, when the Hornets will travel to No. 11 Washington and Lee. First draw is set for 4:15 p.m.
