Four Hornets notch hat tricks in women's lacrosse's win

Box Score

Virginia Beach, Va. -- The Lynchburg College women's lacrosse team got back on the winning track with a dominant 16-7 Old Dominion Athletic Conference road win over Virginia Wesleyan Thursday afternoon.

Four Hornets notched hat tricks on the day, led by senior attackman Sidney Gleason (Dumfries, Va.), who added two assists to her haul. Senior midfielder Alison Truman (Kennebunk, Maine) recorded her first-career three-goal performance as well, and junior attackman Hannah Creasey (Virginia Beach, Va.) and sophomore attackman Kelsi Trevisan (West Chester, Pa.) joined them with three scores apiece.

Meanwhile, senior midfielder Dorrie MacGregor (Centreville, Md.) continued to etch her name in the program record books. MacGregor notched nine draw controls on the day to bring her season total to 90, surpassing the single-season record of 84 she set as a junior. MacGregor broke the program's career-record in draws in Lynchburg's previous contest.

Senior defender Rachel Henderson (Perry Hall, Md.) picked up four ground balls and caused two turnovers, and senior goalie Chelsea Shultis (Hurley, N.Y.) saved seven of the 12 shots that went her way to highlight the Lynchburg defense.

THE RUNDOWN

Final: Lynchburg 16, Virginia Wesleyan 7

Records: Lynchburg (7-7, 5-2 ODAC), Virginia Wesleyan (7-7, 1-6 ODAC)

Venue: Birdsong Field, Virginia Wesleyan University, Virginia Beach, Va.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- The Hornets assumed an early 2-0 lead on goals by sophomore attackman Carly Sandler (Kennebunk, Maine) and Truman, but VWU scored two of the next three goals to keep the game close midway through the first half.

- Lynchburg broke the game open with a late-half run, kicked off by Creasey's unassisted score with 10:49 until halftime. Truman's second goal made it five in a row for LC, which entered the break ahead 8-2.

- After the Marlins opened the second stanza with a goal, Lynchburg ripped off another 5-0 run in the first 10 minutes of the second to end all ideas of a Marlin comeback. Trevisan scored twice in the barrage to wrap up her hat trick. Gleason and Truman tacked on late goals to put a bow on their own three-goal games.

LOOKING AHEAD

Lynchburg will return home to wrap up the regular season Saturday, April 28 against Shenandoah at 2 p.m. The Hornets will celebrate their seven seniors prior to first draw.
