Box Score 2 Raleigh, N.C. -- The 15th-ranked University of Lynchburg softball team rallied for a Sunday doubleheader sweep at William Peace, winning 2-1 and 8-5 in non-conference play.
Sophomore right-hander Kayley Cox (Yorktown, Va.) earned a win and a save in the circle for the Hornets.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1

Cox scattered seven hits and one unearned run in the opener as Lynchburg rallied in the top of the seventh for the victory. Cox struck out four Pacers.

Lynchburg took a 1-0 lead in the fourth on an RBI triple by sophomore right fielder Kortney Leazer (Remington, Va.) and went ahead, 2-1, thanks to a seventh-inning RBI single by senior designated player Taylor Mabry (Bassett, Va.).
Game 2

The Hornets took a 3-0 lead in the second inning on senior catcher Brittany Coffey's (Manassas, Va.) two-run home run and a sacrifice fly from junior shortstop Kayla Hugate (Chesterfield, Va.) in the second inning.

After WPU tied the game in the third, senior first baseman Mackenzie Chitwood (Ferrum, Va.) hit a go-ahead three-run home run.

Hugate added another sac fly in the seventh to put the Hornets up, 8-4, and Cox came in in the seventh to nail down the victory.
LOOKING AHEAD
Lynchburg will resume Old Dominion Athletic Conference play Tuesday, March 26 with a home doubleheader against crosstown rival Randolph beginning at 3 p.m.
