Box Score Newport News, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg women's lacrosse team took an early lead but fell behind before halftime, eventually dropping a 15-8 non-conference game at Christopher Newport Wednesday.
Junior attackman Kelsi Trevisan (West Chester, Pa.) scored five goals and made an assist to lead the Hornets, while junior attackman Carly Sandler (Kennebunk, Maine) chipped in two goals.
Junior goalie Emmy Yarmy (New Rochelle, N.Y.) made a career-best 15 saves in goal for Lynchburg.
Sophomore midfielder Maysn Whitten (Charlottesville, Va.) made two assists for the Hornets.
Zoe Dyer and Cat Leighty led CNU with four goals apiece.

HOW IT HAPPENED

After CNU took an early lead, Trevisan scored a pair of unassisted goals to put the Hornets ahead, 2-1, at the 24:15 mark in the first half.

Lynchburg took a 4-2 lead on goals by Sandler and senior midfielder Hannah Creasey (Virginia Beach, Va.), the latter assisted by Trevisan.

Christopher Newport took over in the final 20 minutes of the half, scoring four unanswered goals to take a 6-4 lead into the break.

The Captains poured it on in the second half, making it a 6-0 run with consecutive goals to open the period and outscoring Lynchburg, 9-4, in the period.
LOOKING AHEAD
The Hornets will open Old Dominion Athletic Conference play on the road Saturday, March 30 with a 1 p.m. first draw at Shenandoah University in Winchester, Va. Lynchburg is 4-2 against the league's other Hornets since SU joined the conference in 2013.
