Randolph-Macon holds on to beat women's lacrosse

Box Score

Ashland, Va. -- University of Lynchburg's women's lacrosse team's comeback attempt fell just short Wednesday afternoon, resulting in a 14-12 Old Dominion Athletic Conference loss at Randolph-Macon.

The Yellow Jackets scored four unanswered second-half goals, but Lynchburg responded with the final three of the contest to make things interesting at the end.

Junior attackman Danielle Hook () notched a hat trick for the Hornets -- her second of the season -- while junior attackman Kelsi Trevisan (West Chester, Pa.) and sophomore midfielder Leah Dumas (Kennebunkport, Maine) each chipped in two goals.

Senior defender Allie O'Leary (Salisbury, Md.) added three ground balls, three draw controls and caused two turnovers.

Junior goalkeeper Emmy Yarmy (New Rochelle, N.Y.) made eight saves and snagged three ground balls for Lynchburg.

Mary Castle and Hannah Jones each scored thrice for the Yellow Jackets, and Elicia Wells made 15 saves.

Lynchburg outshot R-MC, 35-30.

  • Randolph-Macon responded with four straight scores to take a 6-3 lead, but the Hornets closed the gap to 7-6 by halftime.

  • R-MC scored to open the second period, but goals by Trevisan and sophomore midfielder Maysn Whitten (Charlottesville, Va.) tied the game, 8-8, with 23:27 remaining.

  • The Yellow Jackets ripped off a 6-1 run over the next 17 minutes to take control of the game.

  • Lynchburg made things interesting late thanks to a pair of scores from Dumas and Hook's third of the game, but the R-MC defense held on in the waning minutes to secure the win.
