HOW IT HAPPENED

Game 1

  • Lynchburg scored on a first-inning Maroons error for an early 1-0 lead and doubled the advantage in the fourth inning thanks to an RBI single off the bat of sophomore right fielder Kortney Leazer (Remington, Va.).

  • Roanoke rallied for five runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 5-2 lead they would not relinquish.

  • The Hornets added two runs in the sixth thanks to a two-run single from Coffey.

Game 2

  • A first-inning rally put Lynchburg in control of the nightcap early. Junior shortstop Kayla Hugate (Chesterfield, Va.) led off the game with a double and scored on senior first baseman Mackenzie Chitwood's (Ferrum, Va.) sacrifice fly. Hugate capped the seven-run inning with a two-run single.

  • Coffey homered to lead off the second, continuing the rout. Lynchburg added two more runs in the frame to lead 10-0 after two. Coffey slugged her second home run, another solo shot, in the fifth inning.

  • Senior right-hander Taylor Belknap (Arden, N.C.) completed the abbreviated shutout with five innings of two-hit ball. She struck out six Maroons in her eighth win of the season.
