HOW IT HAPPENED

Game 1

  • E&H right-hander Cameron Derr held the Hornets at bay in the early going before Lynchburg exploded for five runs in the fourth inning. Junior left fielder Carol Oberhelman (Washington Township, N.J.) got the Hornets on the board with an RBI single before an E&H fielding miscue allowed Lynchburg's second run to score.

  • With two outs, Mabry slugged a three-run home run to left field to put the visitors up, 5-0.

  • The Wasps finally got to Hornets starter Alex Cisar (Sykesville, Md.) in the seventh, a Rachel Smoot solo home run. Senior right-hander Taylor Belknap (Arden, N.C.) entered the circle to close out the ballgame.

Game 2

  • Lynchburg drew first blood in the nightcap as well thanks to a second-inning RBI single from sophomore right fielder Kortney Leazer (Remington, Va.).

  • E&H pushed across all three of its runs in the bottom of the second.

  • Sophomore right-hander Kayley Cox (Yorktown, Va.) shut down the hosts for the remainder of the ballgame with 4 ⅔ scoreless innings, but Lynchburg's offense could not change the score.
