Lynchburg, Va. -- Freshman Luke Mega's brace vaulted University of Lynchburg's men's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over No. 13 Oglethorpe Friday evening in non-conference action.

Mega opened the scoring for Lynchburg (3-2) in the 20th minute of the match. Senior Michael Lyons played a long ball forward to the freshman, who corralled the pass right of the box and beat several defenders to get the Hornets on the board.

Lynchburg continued to control the match after halftime, but Oglethorpe (4-1) launched a breakaway in the 69th minute that forced a Hornets foul in the box, resulting in a penalty kick. But junior goalkeeper Kyle Gallagher guessed correctly on the PK, diving to his right to save the shot and preserve the Lynchburg lead.

Mega scored again just under 12 minutes later, chasing down a through-ball from Abibi Osman and beating the Stormy Petrel defense for the second time on the evening.

Oglethorpe rebounded with an 86th-minute goal by Josh Bronstorph and nearly tied the match in the 88th minute, when Gallagher made an acrobatic save -- his third of the night -- on a sharp rebound.

The victory was the third of the season for Lynchburg and the Hornets' first over a team ranked in the D3soccer.com top 25 since defeating then-No. 20 Washington and Lee for the 2016 Old Dominion Athletic Conference championship.

The Hornets will be back in action Wednesday, Sept. 18 at Christopher Newport.
