Box Score 2 Lynchburg, Va. -- University of Lynchburg's softball team came up with late-inning heroics twice Sunday on its way to a doubleheader sweep of Methodist, 4-0 and 3-2, on Moon Field.
Freshman Cortney Rawes was in the middle of it all, going 4-for-7 on the day with the game-winning hit in the nightcap.
Alex Cisar spun a gem for the Hornets (3-1) in the opener, scattering seven hits in a complete-game shutout.
Twelfth-ranked Lynchburg finally got the right-hander some run support in the bottom of the sixth. Rawes started the rally with a one-out infield single, and she and Haley Drew both came home on Jordyne Vance's double to left field.
Two batters later, Kortney Leazer slugged a two-run home run down the left-field line to put the Hornets ahead 4-0.
In the nightcap, Lynchburg again waited until the late innings to make noise with the bats. Trailing 2-0 in the fifth, the Hornets loaded the bases with one out but were only able to get one run home, a Sarah Commons RBI groundout that brought Leazer in.
Lynchburg still faced that 2-1 deficit in the seventh, but Kayla Hugate kicked off the comeback with a leadoff single that Commons followed with a bunt base hit.
After a bunt moved the runners to second and third, Rawes stroked a liner to left field that secured the walk-off win.
The Hornets will now hit the road for their next 16 games, starting with a Feb. 23 trip to Greensboro College.
