Salem, Va. -- Aniya Seward continued her assault on the University of Lynchburg track & field record books this weekend, leaping into the top spot in the women's indoor triple jump on her way to victory at Roanoke College's Bast Cregger Invitational.
Seward's 38-foot, 4.25-inch bound paced the field at the season-opening meet and tied the Old Dominion Athletic Conference's record in the event, set by Virginia Wesleyan's Jaylyn Lane in 2020.
Seward, a sophomore, also finished second in the 60-meter hurdles, finishing in 8.98 seconds to race into second on Lynchburg's all-time leaderboard in that event.
Bailey Casto opened her senior campaign with a runner-up finish in the pole vault, clearing 10 feet in her first competition of the year.
On the men's side, Marques Wilson topped 12'1.50" to tie for fifth.
Two other Hornets -- graduate student Julian Douglas and senior David Blackstone -- also logged top-10 finishes. Douglas leapt 20'8.5" to take sixth in the long jump, while Blackstone traveled 20'6.5" to place seventh. He was eighth in the triple jump (41'0.5").
Lynchburg's track & field teams will break for the holidays before returning to competition in 2022, starting January 15 at the VMI Team Challenge.
