Box Score St. Mary's City, Md. -- Despite five goals from Kelsi Trevisan and a hat trick by Alla Daniel, University of Lynchburg's women's lacrosse team fell for the first time in 2021, 16-12, at the hands of No. 25 St. Mary's (Md.) Wednesday.
Lynchburg jumped out to a 5-3 lead on the back of four Trevisan goals in the first 21:02 of the game, but the Seahawks answered with five straight to end the first half with an 8-5 advantage.
SMCM extended the lead to 12-6 early in the second, but back-to-back goals from Daniel kicked off a 5-0 Lynchburg run that cut the deficit to one goal with 7:14 remaining.
After both teams were scoreless for several minutes, the hosts broke through for the first of four unanswered goals with 3:59 remaining to put the game out of reach.
Erin Gardner led the Hornet defense with eight draw controls and a caused turnover, while Julia Broughton made eight saves in goal.
Lynchburg (2-1) will hit the road again for a non-conference game Saturday at No. 14-ranked Mary Washington. The whistle will blow at 3 p.m. in Fredericksburg.
