Harrisonburg, Va. -- University of Lynchburg's volleyball team battled to a pair of Old Dominion Athletic Conference victories on the road Friday, topping host Eastern Mennnonite in four sets before winning a five-set thriller with rival Roanoke College.

Sophomore Abbi Leeper had two double-doubles on the day, totaling 29 kills and 33 digs on the day, and junior libero Flinn Christian became the fifth player in program history to notch 34 digs in a match, doing so in the win over Roanoke.

Lynchburg (3-1, 2-0 ODAC) topped Eastern Mennonite 30-28, 14-25, 25-19, 25-17 on the back of Leeper's 17 kills and 15 digs. The Hornets let a five-point lead slip away in the first set but fought stay in it until freshman middle Princess Salifou put down a kill and teamed up with Leeper to block the Royals' final attack attempt of the stanza.

After a tough second set, the Hornets took an early lead in the third and put it to bed on a 7-2 run highlighted by three straight aces from Emma Drake.

Lynchburg also finished the fourth set on a run, scoring 12 of the final 14 points.

Salifou managed 13 kills to go with three blocks, while freshman setter Taylor Breeden dished out a season-high 45 assists.

Shortly after, the Hornets eked out a 25-20, 25-21, 21-25, 21-25, 15-9 win over Roanoke behind 12 kills apiece from Leeper and senior middle Natalie Lavelle. Drake added 10 kills and two blocks, while Christian contributed 35 digs and two aces.

Lynchburg took the first two sets before RC caught fire in the third, hitting .333 as a team. The Hornets couldn't find the inside of the lines in the fourth, committing nine attack errors as the Maroons forced a fifth set.

A 9-1 run by the Hornets put them ahead, 9-3, in the fifth as four players registered kills. Roanoke clawed back to cut it to 11-9 in favor of the Hornets, but back-to-back kills by Lavelle helped secure the match on a 4-0 run.

The Hornets have won nine of the last 11 meetings with their rivals from Salem.

Lynchburg volleyball will return home to non-conference play Thursday, March 18 when Averett pays a visit to Turner Gym. The whistle will blow at 6 p.m.
