Box Score 2 Salisbury, Md. -- University of Lynchburg's softball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader at the hands of No. 5-ranked Salisbury Monday on the road, falling 1-0 and 5-0.
Sea Gull pitching held the Hornets to no runs on six hits for the day.
Freshman right-hander Hailey Farlow was tremendous in the circle for Lynchburg in Monday's opener, tossing 5 ⅔ innings of one-run ball. Neither team broke through in the game's first three innings, but SU got on the board in the fourth when Maddison Lednum managed a two-out single and came around to score on Lauren Meyers' RBI double.
Lynchburg got the tying run aboard in the fifth thanks to Karle Cundiff's single but couldn't bring her around, and Salisbury's Savannah Sheats retired the final seven Hornets in order to complete the shutout.
In Game 2, SU jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first and added to the lead with three runs in the third and another in the sixth.
Lynchburg got baserunners aboard in the first, second, fourth, and seventh innings, but all four rallies were snuffed out.
The Hornets (8-6) finish a long weekend of softball with a 2-4 record on the trip, including a win over Rowan, which was receiving votes in the latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association poll. Lynchburg will now focus on a non-conference doubleheader at Mary Washington set for Thursday, March 18 at 2 p.m.
