Box Score Lynchburg, Va. -- The No. 19-ranked University of Lynchburg field hockey team celebrated Homecoming with a 3-1 come-from-behind victory over Old Dominion Athletic Conference foe Bridgewater Saturday on Shellenberger Field.
Trailing 1-0 at the half, Lynchburg's Aaryn Boatwright, Sydney Rowe, and Madison Mark all scored after halftime to earn the Hornets their 12th win of the 2022 season.
Lynchburg controlled the first half statistically, out-shooting the Eagles by a 7-2 margin and earning three penalty corners, but the Hornets were unable to cash in. Bridgewater did, however. The Eagles' Bekah Mercer knocked home a 27th-minute goal to cement a halftime lead for the visitors.
The Hornets came out with renewed urgency in the second half, holding BC shotless in the third quarter. Lynchburg knotted the score in the 39th minute when Kessa Romero found Boatwright open inside the circle and assumed its first lead of the game just 25 seconds before the quarter break when Mallory Lamb crossed the ball into the arc to Rowe, who converted from close range for the 2-1 advantage.
Lamb assisted the insurance goal for the Hornets as well, sending another cross into the circle to Mark, who sent a screamer into the back of the cage in the 55th minute.
Rowe led the Hornets with five shots, while Lamb's two assists were the first of the star freshman defender's career.
Lynchburg (12-3, 4-1 ODAC), winners of three straight, will look to make it four in a row with a Wednesday trip to Virginia Wesleyan for another conference contest.
