Box Score Lynchburg, Va. -- The No. 6-ranked University of Lynchburg men's lacrosse team cruised to victory in Saturday afternoon's home-opener, topping visiting Greensboro by a 26-2 count.
Ryan Kenney led the way for the Lynchburg attack, scoring six goals to go with a pair of assists. Charlie Evans and Jake Rust each tallied hat tricks, and Brett Rogers scored a goal and dished out a game-high five assists.
The Hornets started slowly. Lynchburg didn't break through the GC defense until the 9:15 mark in the first quarter, when Dylan Wolfe took a Brett Rogers feed and put it into the upper right corner of the goal. That opened the flood gates. Lynchburg scored six more times in the first quarter – three of them Kenney's – to lead 7-0 after a period of play.
Kenney scored thrice more in the second, and Rust polished off his hat trick as the Hornets skipped into halftime with a 15-1 advantage. After halftime, Grant Voigt got the scoring up and running again for Lynchburg, and Evans scored two second-half goals to secure his second hat trick in as many games.
Henri Marindin and Darren Palma led the defense with three caused turnovers each, while Chris Darminio had five ground balls and two caused turnovers. Lynchburg's five face-off men dominated at the X, winning 22 of 32 bouts.
The Hornets (2-0) will face a tougher test next Saturday as No. 8 Cabrini pays a visit to Shellenberger Field. First whistle between the two top-10 teams will be at 1 p.m.
