Salisbury, Md. -- University of Lynchburg's softball team suffered a pair of losses Saturday in the Hornets' finale at the Sea Gull Classic, hosted by Salisbury University.
Susquehanna topped the Hornets by a 7-3 margin to start the day, and Marymount claimed a 3-2 win in the nightcap.
Lynchburg fell behind 1-0 in the early going as Susquehanna got a second-inning run across, but Sophie Tully homered to lead off the bottom half to even the score. The Hornets took the lead on an Addison Walter RBI groundout later in the inning.
Susquehanna took control in the middle innings, opening up a 7-2 lead before Lynchburg countered with a Bri Hodges RBI single in the seventh. The game ended 7-3 in SU's favor.
In the nightcap, Lynchburg opened up a 2-0 lead with RBI by Caroline Joy and Walter in the top of the first inning. Marymount pushed a run across in the second and two more in the fifth to take the lead, however.
The Hornets managed to get runners aboard in both the sixth and seventh – including back-to-back hits to start the seventh – but couldn't send the tying run home as they suffered their sixth consecutive loss.
Lynchburg (9-11) will return to the diamond March 26 with a doubleheader scheduled at Eastern Mennonite.
