Box Score 2 Little River, S.C. -- University of Lynchburg's softball team earned another split on Day 2 of the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic Saturday, falling 3-2 to Kean in the opener before throttling Purchase State, 12-0 in 5 innings, in the late game at the North Myrtle Beach Sports Complex.
Karle Cundiff led the way for Lynchburg in the opener, collecting a pair of hits and driving in a run. Kaleigh Hackett also picked up an RBI for the Hornets.
Kean took an early lead in the ballgame, scoring single runs in the second and third innings. Lynchburg finally mustered some offense with two out in the fourth when Caroline Joy was hit by a pitch. Pinch runner Jordan Brown swiped second and then came around to score on Cundiff's opposite-field single.
The Cougars took advantage of a Hornets error to make it a 3-1 lead in the fifth, and that run proved the difference. Lynchburg rallied in the bottom half following a Leah Caldwell walk and Carly Hudnall's infield single. Hackett drove in a run with the RBI single, but Kean snuffed out the rally with two runners aboard and set the last seven Lynchburg hitters down in order to nail down the win.
Statistics for the Purchase State game were not available yet at the time of this writing.
Lynchburg (7-5) will wrap up its stay on the South Carolina shore Sunday with games against Eureka and Lebanon Valley. The Hornets begin action at 3:30 p.m.
