Box Score Lynchburg, Va. -- University of Lynchburg's women's lacrosse team pulled away in the first quarter and cruised Saturday to a 14-5 non-conference win over Southern Virginia.
Nicki Santora scored five goals and made an assist in the Hornets' home-opener, while Leah Dumas chipped in a hat trick and an assist of her own. Six other Lynchburg players found the back of the net in the rout.
Dumas got Lynchburg started in the first minute, scoring the first of her three. The graduate student tacked on a second before the game was 3 minutes old. After a Knights goal, Santora scored her first to kick off a 5-0 Lynchburg run as the Hornets never looked back.
Lynchburg led 7-2 after a quarter and 8-2 at halftime after a defense-heavy second period.
After halftime, Michelle Perkins got the Hornet offense revved back up with her 33rd-minute score. Santora added her fifth to cap off a 4-0 Lynchburg run in the third and match her career-high.
Santora also caused a game-high five turnovers and scooped up three ground balls for the Hornets. Jordan Nilsen led the Lynchburg defense with three caused turnovers and seven ground balls. Perkins and Payton Saville each notched a goal and an assist.
Lynchburg (2-0) will face another test from a visiting team Friday, when No. 18-ranked York (Pa.) takes a trip to the Hill City for a 4 p.m. game.
