Box Score Lynchburg, Va. -- University of Lynchburg's women's lacrosse team erupted for five of the game's final six goals, rallying to come away with a 14-11 Old Dominion Athletic Conference victory over visiting Randolph-Macon Wednesday on Shellenberger Field.
Nicki Santora led the Lynchburg attack with a four-goal effort, including the go-ahead score with 7:32 remaining, while Alla Daniel added three goals of her own.
After both defenses played well early, the Yellow Jackets opened the scoring at the 9:43 mark in the first quarter. Dara Gregory quickly pulled the Hornets even, and Leah Dumas scored with 5:58 remaining in the first to put Lynchburg in front. The Hornets then outscored R-MC by a 5-2 margin in the second to carry a 7-3 lead into halftime.
The third quarter was all Randolph-Macon. The Yellow Jackets scored three straight goals out of the half until Santora interrupted the run to make it 8-6 Lynchburg with 9:49 left in the third. Randolph-Macon continued to control the flow of the game, however, scoring thrice more to end the third with a 9-8 lead.
Santora tied the score at 9 with 11:56 remaining, and the next few minutes were a dogfight. R-MC's Logan Schweiger found the back of the net at the 10:30 mark to put the Yellow Jackets back in front before Santora scored again with 9:22 remaining to retie the game. Daniel won the ensuing draw and went straight to the goal, but the Hornet lead didn't last long. Rianna Lowery scooped up the next draw control and scored with 8:57 on the clock to again tie the game, this time 11-11.
After a defensive stop, Lynchburg cleared the ball and drew a foul, resulting in a yellow card on R-MC. The Hornets took advantage of the woman-up opportunity as Santora put Lynchburg ahead for good with 7:32 left to play. Mia Sullivan and Daniel chipped in insurance goals, and Lynchburg secured its third ODAC victory of the season.
Patricia Rogers was fantastic in goal for Lynchburg, making 12 saves, while Tori King helped the Hornets control possession with a team-best eight draw controls. Caelinn Satterfield highlighted the defense with three ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Lynchburg (5-9, 3-3 ODAC) will complete its run through the conference portion of its schedule next Wednesday at home against Guilford at 4 p.m.
