Box Score 2 Lynchburg Va. -- University of Lynchburg softball earned its seventh-conference win of the season in a double-header with Roanoke Saturday afternoon.
Kailey Dorcsis made the start in the first game but only got through three innings. She allowed four runs and struck out two batters. The Hornets never led despite Anna Grace Terrell scoring on an error in the second, and Kaleigh Hackett crossing home after a wild pitch in the sixth. Hackett also led the team with two hits in Game 1.
Bre Carter took over as the pitcher in the fourth and held Roanoke scoreless. However, the Maroons were able to coast after their four early runs and earned the victory.
Roanoke got out to another lead in Saturday's finale with a run in the third. The Hornets responded with a three-run fourth inning to gain their first advantage of the day. Ruby Stewart walked with the bases loaded for the first run of the inning. Sarah English grabbed a pinch-hit single to put Lynchburg in front with two RBI.
The Hornets briefly conceded the lead in the fifth, and Dorcsis went back out into the circle to get the third out of the inning. Lynchburg quickly jumped back out to a 5-4 lead in the bottom half with RBI from Sophie Tully and Terrell.
Lexi Powell and Tully gave their squad some insurance in the sixth, and the Hornets earned the split with the 10th-ranked Maroons, 7-5, in Game 2.
Hackett led the way with multihit games in both ends of the double-header, while Dorcsis grabbed her fifth win of the year.
The Hornets (17-15, 7-3 ODAC) are back in action Sunday, Apr. 10 when they host Shenandoah for a double-header beginning at 1:30 p.m.
