Box Score Lynchburg, Va. -- University of Lynchburg's women's lacrosse team celebrated Senior Day in winning fashion, blowing past visiting Bridgewater, 16-8, for its first Old Dominion Athletic Conference win of the 2022 season.
Payton Saville led the Hornets with a hat trick, while Alla Daniel, Leah Dumas, Tori King, Nicki Santora, and Mia Sullivan scored twice each. Dara Gregory had a goal and four assists for Lynchburg.
The Hornets got on the board first with Libby Kennedy's goal just 1:45 into the game, but Bridgewater took control of the next several minutes. Kaity Petersheim scored twice to put the Eagles in front, and BC opened up a 4-2 lead with 7:37 left in the first quarter. Santora scored her first goal on Daniel's assist with 1:12 left in the period to bring the Hornets within one.
Dumas scored just over a minute into the second to even the score, and Lynchburg dominated the period. The Hornets ripped off seven unanswered goals in the quarter – two each from Saville and Sullivan – to take a 10-4 lead into halftime.
Lynchburg continued the momentum in the third, scoring four straight to assume a 14-4 lead, and the Hornets cruised to the win.
Prior to the game, the program celebrated its five seniors – Lindsey Ferreira, Gregory, Madison Knight, Jordan Nilsen, and Micah Slacum – and three graduate students – Dumas, Ellie Marindin, and Santora – for their contributions to the program.
Lynchburg (3-8, 1-2 ODAC) will hit the road in search of another conference win Wednesday with a trip to Ferrum for a 5 p.m. start.
