Box Score Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg women's lacrosse team scored three-unanswered goals in the fourth quarter but came up short against Meredith Wednesday evening.
Sydney Dumas and Neely Morris recorded hat tricks in the 9-8 loss.
Reagan Bednar scored in her ninth-straight regular season game to open the scoring in the first for the Hornets after the Avenging Angels got on the board twice.
Morris tied the game up 2-2 less than a minute after Bednar's goal.
Lynchburg totaled four cards in the loss, and Meredith scored on a player-up opportunity to end the opening quarter.
Dumas and Morris both found the back of the net in the second. MJ Tucker saved the only shot she faced in the quarter, and the Hornets took a one-goal advantage into intermission.
Dumas scored her second of the game in the third quarter, but her goal marked Lynchburg's only tally of the third as the Avenging Angels built an 8-5 lead before the final period.
Meredith extended its lead 55 seconds into the fourth. However, with Patricia Rogers making her season-debut in goal during the fourth, the Avenging Angels did not score again. The sophomore made five stops in the final stanza as the Hornets mounted a comeback. She made her first three saves as both teams went scoreless for 8:31 after Meredith's score.
Dumas secured her fourth-straight hat trick with 5:34 remaining to end the drought. Jordan Nielsen scored with Lynchburg a player-up as just over two minutes remained.
The Hornets scored on their shot of the contest. Morris earned a hat trick with 31 seconds left. The Kitty Hawk, N.C. native has scored in three-straight games and recorded her first-career three-goal game.
Meredith secured the final draw control and held on for the last 30 seconds narrowly escaping with the 9-8 victory.
Lynchburg (2-5) travels to Christopher Newport on Wednesday, March 29 at 4 p.m. The Captains are receiving votes in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Association's top-25 poll.
