Box Score Newport News, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg women's lacrosse team fell to the Captains of Christopher Newport Wednesday afternoon.
Peyton Saville scored twice in the 16-5 loss and led the way with five draw controls
The junior netted Lynchburg's first goal in the second quarter, but the Captains already built a four-goal advantage.
Reagan Bednar netted her eighth goal of the season on a player-up opportunity shortly after. Saville grabbed her second of the game on an assist from Alla Daniel, and Neely Morris scored Lynchburg's third goal of the half with 30 seconds remaining before intermission. Morris has scored in each of the team's last four contests.
Sydney Dumas scored the lone goal for the Hornets in the second half as the Captains sailed to a 16-5 victory. The freshman has an 11-point lead over Daniel for the team lead in scoring. Tori King caused two turnovers and hauled in three draw controls.
Patricia Rogers made her first start of the season and made six saves. MJ Tucker took over early in the third and made seven stops in goal.
Lynchburg (2-6) begins conference play with Senior Day against Averett on Saturday, April 1 at 3:30 p.m.
