Box Score 2 Raleigh, N.C. -- The University of Lynchburg softball team defeated Kean 8-0 in six innings but lost to Piedmont 5-2 to kick off the weekend at the Grand Slam Triangle Classic.
Graduate student Olivia Herman started the scoring in the 1st inning against Kean with a two-RBI triple. She earned her third and fourth RBI after reaching on an error in the 3rd and on a bases-loaded walk in the 4th.
Freshman Alyssa Talayumptewa scored sophomore Ruby Stewart and freshman Madison Barnes with an RBI single to left. Talayumptewa's hit implemented the run rule and earned the Hornets their sixth win on the year.
Sophomore Kailey Dorcsis pitched five innings of scoreless ball with three Ks. Junior Amala Clawson pitched one inning in relief with one punchout.
Lynchburg fell to Piedmont in the second game of the day 5-2.
The Hornets were tied with Piedmont through the first three innings. Piedmont crossed the plate a total of five times during the 4th and 5th innings.
Lynchburg tried to chip away in the sixth and plated two runs. Stewart and Caroline Joy scored for the Hornets in the inning. Freshman Alex DiNardo drove in both runs. Junior Emily Charlton pitched 4 1/3 innings for the Hornets in the loss.
