Box Score Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg women's lacrosse team earned its first Old Dominion Athletic Conference win of the season Saturday over Averett on Senior Day.
The Hornets celebrated nine seniors prior to the opening draw including student assistant coach Elena Tippett.
Freshman Sydney Dumas scored Lynchburg's first goal of the game in the middle of a five-goal quarter from the visiting Cougars.
The Hornets erased the 5-1 deficit by the end of the second quarter. Tori King kicked off a six-goal run for the home team, and she scored again during the run on an assist from Mia Sullivan. Neely Morris scored on a free-position shot, and Dumas netted her second of the day with Lynchburg a player-up.
Averett stopped Lynchburg's six-goal onslaught with the game-tying goal 1:08 before halftime.
Dumas secured her sixth-career hat trick during the third quarter. The Cougars scored twice in the third, but the Hornets coasted to victory with a five-goal fourth quarter.
King tallied her second-career three-goal game and first since March 31, 2021 in the fourth, Taylor Daughtery scored with Lynchburg a player down, Dumas scored for a fourth time, and Alla Daniel and McKenna Steinau wrapped up the win with goals in the final five minutes.
Daniel led the team with five draw controls, and Patricia Rogers secured her first win of the season after playing the final three quarters in net. The 2022 all-ODAC goalie made six saves in the win and helped shut out Averett in the final period.
Lynchburg (3-6, 1-0 ODAC) plays Randolph on the road Wednesday, April 5 at 6 p.m.
