Women's lacrosse falls to ranked-conference foe

Box Score

Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg women's lacrosse team fell 10-7 at home against Roanoke Wednesday night.

The Hornets battled the 17th-ranked Maroons close in the first quarter. The Hornets built an early 3-1 lead on goals from Alla Daniel, Payton Saville, and Sydney Dumas. Daniel also assisted on Saville's goal.

However, the Maroons tied the game up before the end of the first and never trailed again.

Patricia Rogers kept Lynchburg in the game with one of the best performances in her young career. The Forest, Va. native made a career-high 19 saves in the loss. Her previous game-high came against the Maroons a year earlier when she made 18 stops on March 24, 2022.

After the Maroons took an 8-6 lead midway through the third quarter, Rogers made seven saves over a four-minute stretch. Her first save of the miraculous run was on a free-position shot.

The Maroons managed to sneak past Rogers twice more in the fourth quarter. Saville scored her second of the night for Lynchburg's only goal in the final period, but the Maroons avoided the upset.

Rogers, the first-team all-conference winner from 2022, stopped 65.5% of the shots that came her way. That marks her best save percentage in a game where she played all 60 minutes. She has made 47 saves on the season with 46 of those coming after she took over the starting job on March 11.

Lynchburg (4-8, 2-2 ODAC) travels to Ashland, Va. for a matchup with Randolph-Macon on Saturday, March 15 at 7 p.m.
