Taveres, Fla. -- The University of Lynchburg beach volleyball team took on Hendrix and East Texas Baptist at the American Volleyball Coaches Association small colleges national championship Saturday.
The Hornets were eliminated from championship contention after falling to Hendrix 3-0 but bounced back with a 3-2 win over ETBU.
Jordan Palmer and Kailey Keough dropped their match on the first court 11-21, 12-21 against Hendrix. Margo Fox and Parker Lynch dropped their match 8-21, 13-21 at No. 3, and Landon Spotts and Molly Ballew fell 13-21, 21-21 on the fifth court.
Lynchburg responded to the loss with a hard-fought victory against ETBU.
Keough and Palmer won 21-18, 22-20 at the first flight.
Lynchburg earned its other two points in three-set victories at No. 2 and No. 4, respectively.
Mady Shirey and SJ Yanz bounced back from a first-set loss and won the next two 21-15, 15-9 on the second court.
Amanda Trapp and Mackenzie Ingrassia won 10-21, 21-19, 15-8 on the fourth court.
Lynchburg (11-19) takes on Lake-Sumter in the semifinals of the silver bracket on Sunday, April 16 at 9:15 a.m.
